Lich-Barber trial: Ottawa police officer to testify Wednesday

An Ottawa Police Service (OPS) liaison officer who communicated directly with the truckers' convoy protesters in the winter 2022, is expected to testify Wednesday at the criminal trial of two of the movement's organizers.

Officer Isabelle Cyr was scheduled to address the court on Tuesday, but defense lawyers said they needed time to review notes and emails exchanged between Ms. Cyr and her colleagues during the protests.

The testimony of five Ottawa residents concluded Tuesday in court.

Civilian witnesses at the trial spoke in testimony of the overwhelming noise coming from truck horns and engines, as well as the lingering smell of diesel fumes during the protests.

The two defendants, Chris Barber and Tamara Lich, face charges including misdeeds and counseling others to commit misdeeds.

Crown prosecutors are trying to prove that Ms. Lich and Mr. Barber influenced and encouraged protesters while fundraising for demonstrations.
