16:40 – A long journey

A long journey awaits the Bretons and Eric Roy who confirmed it at a press conference: “It will also be a discovery, we are going a bit into the unknown. We have done the necessary work to analyze this new OM. We want to discover. I want to fully experience this season which promises to be exciting, but at the same time very complicated to manage. We know what awaits us: the series of matches, the pace we are not used to, whether it is for the club, the staff or the players.

16:35 – Time for confirmation

This Saturday afternoon, Stade Brestois begins a new season against Olympique de Marseille. Third in Ligue 1 behind PSG and Monaco last year, Brestois will play in the Champions League this season. After a historic season, Eric Roy's men will have to confirm this during this 2024/2025 season.

16:20 – A weakened Marseille squadé

Roberto De Zerbi saw his squad change with ten arrivals and nine departures. While Valentin Rongier is back in the Marseille squad after a long absence due to injury, Brassier, Kondogbia, Nadir and Ruiz are absent for this first day of Ligue 1. The Italian coach must deal with these absences to be competitive in Brest: “It's going to be a complicated start to the season” for several reasons: suspensions, injuries, a squad that is not yet complete… But that is not an excuse because we have the players and the qualities to succeed.

Having arrived at Stade Brestois this summer, Ludovic Majorque will start in attack. Here is the Brest eleven composed of by Eric Roy: Bizot (G) – Lala, Chardonnet, Le Cardinal, Amavi – Martin, Camara, Pereira Lage, Del Castillo, Le Douaron – Ajorque.

16:15 – Great ambitions

In Brittany, Roberto De Zerbi does not intend to travel to get a point. Facing last year's surprise team, the former Brighton coach is determined to assert his ambitions from the first day: “Tomorrow, we are also playing against a club that has qualified for the Champions League, a quality team, and that encourages us to do well. I want the players to show that they deserve to wear this jersey, with courage, character, personality (…) We must not tell ourselves that we will be superior to Brest, and they inferior. We want to play a serious match, and I think we have a team strong enough to get a result tomorrow.” To do this, De Zerbi will be able to count on his recruits Elye Wahi, Mason Greenwood or the Argentinian goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

The first line-up for Olympique de Marseille has been announced. Bamo Meïté will be in defense while Quentin Merlin will play in midfield alongside Højbjerg. In attack, Mason Greenwood and Elye Wahi are aligned: Rulli (G) – Meïté, Balerdi, Cornelius, Murillo – Merlin, Højbjerg, Greenwood, Harit, Luis Henrique – Wahi
