The LFP continues its promotion of Ligue 1 talents by launching the “Top Passeur” badge, dedicated to the best passers in the championship. A distinction that highlights the creators of play, often overshadowed by the scorers. Joao Neves will be the first to receive it this Friday, February 7.

After introducing the “Top Scorer” badge for the top scorer in Ligue 1 last season, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) is continuing its modernization by now rewarding passers. A new badge called “Top Passeur” will be launched on Friday during the match between Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.

The LFP announced it this Wednesday, February 5 in a press release, the first to receive it will be Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves, leader of the ranking with seven assists. An initiative intended to promote these playmakers, often in the shadow of the scorers, but essential to the offensive dynamics of a team.

A badge for passers, in the line of the “Top Scorer”

Scorers are no longer the only ones in the spotlight. With the “Top Passeur” badge, the LFP intends to highlight those who shape the decisive actions, offering caviar to their teammates. This new badge, worn on the jersey of the best passer during the season, is a natural extension of the “Top Scorer” badge, which has distinguished the leader in goal scorers since 2023.

Designed by the TYRSA studio, a specialist in lettering and visual identity, the badge design symbolises the link between the passer and his scorer. Unlike its counterpart dedicated to scorers, it abandons the hexagonal frame for a freer approach, echoing the creativity of the passers. The “P” of the badge subtly integrates the number “1”, thus reinforcing its visual identity. Its refined and modern design perfectly reflects the elegance and technicality required to deliver an assist.

Joao Neves, first “Top Passeur” honoured

Current leader of the passers ranking with seven offerings this season, Joao Neves will be the first player to wear this badge. During the match between PSG and Monaco this Friday, February 7, he will symbolically receive his jersey bearing the new badge from Ousmane Dembélé, himself the holder of the “Top Scorer” badge with 14 goals. A symbolic passing of the baton between the two players who embody the Parisian attack.

While Neves is currently leading the race, the competition remains tight, with Ludovic Blas and Moses Simon hot on his heels, each with six assists. This badge should thus add an extra dose of suspense to the championship, rewarding not only the finishers but also the architects of the offensive game.
