Marseille took the lead in Ligue 1 after the first ;st day of the French championship just ahead of PSG.

OM struck hard on Saturday, August 17, during the first day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The day after PSG's big win in Le Havre (4-1), Marseille crushed Brest away (5-1), with a penalty save by their new goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, a double from their new striker Mason Greenwood and a penalty goal from their other offensive recruit Elye Wahi. The final score brings both credit to the new coach Roberto De Zerbi and a lot of worry on the Brest side a few weeks before their Champions League debut.
