Marseille took the lead in Ligue 1 after Saturday's matches thanks to their 5-1 win over Brest. OM moved ahead of PSG, winners over Le Havre on Friday (4-1) while Monaco won against Saint-Etienne (1-0).

OM struck hard on Saturday, August 17, during the first day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. The day after PSG's big win in Le Havre (4-1), Marseille largely brushed aside Brest away (5-1), during a match marked by a penalty save by its new goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, a double from its new striker Mason Greenwood and a penalty goal from its other offensive recruit Elye Wahi. The final score brings both credit to the new coach Roberto De Zerbi and a lot of worry on the Brest side a few weeks before their Champions League debut.

OM provisionally top of Ligue 1 is followed by PSG. For its first match without Mbappé, the French champion won against Le Havre, 4-1. Monaco also had a successful debut by beating the promoted Stéphanois 1-0 on a goal from Minamino. The rest of the Ligue 1 match was marked by the long interruption of the Reims-Lille match following the terrible shock suffered on the pitch by the Dogue Angel Gomes. Evacuated After long minutes of worry, the Lille midfielder was conscious and the latest news was rather reassuring. The match resumed after 34 minutes of interruption. Reduced to 10, Reims lost 1-0.
