Finally, DAZN has decided to lower the cost of the subscription to watch Ligue 1. This decision follows the strong reactions caused by the initial price of the offer.
When the DAZN-BeIN Sports duo announced that they had obtained the Ligue 1 rights, the first rumors suggested that the amount would be high to access all the matches. In fact, DAZN initially aimed to offer 8 weekly matches for 40 euros per month without a commitment, or 30 euros if you signed up for 12 months. Criticism quickly came online, with many denouncing the cost being far too high.
The British service seems to have taken these criticisms into account. According to L’Équipe, the DAZN subscription will be set at 25 euros per month. Fans of the French championship who want to watch all the matches will be forced to pay an additional 15 euros to access the weekly match that will be broadcast on BeIN Sports, bringing the total cost to 40 euros per month. They will also be able to watch other championships offered by the Qatari channel, notably the Bundesliga and La Liga.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000As a reminder, DAZN spent around 400 million euros to obtain the rights to Ligue 1, compared to 100 million euros for BeIN Sports. The president of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), Vincent Labrune, was originally hoping for an agreement around 1 billion euros.
For the sports streaming platform, obtaining the rights to Ligue 1 is a crucial step. Its goal is to become the global reference in the sector. However, it will have to reach 1.5 million subscribers in two years for the French championship to be profitable for it. If it does not succeed, an exit clause could be activated in the summer of 2026. On the other hand, 50 million euros will be paid to the LFP otherwise.
It should be noted that several media outlets have mentioned the possibility of Canal+ getting involved. The French giant is said to have started discussions with DAZN and BeIN Sport, with whom it already has a partnership, to broadcast all of the matches via its platform. No additional information on this subject has yet been leaked. Talks with Internet service providers are also said to be underway.
The platform must also recruit an editorial team to cover the 8 matches per week, and should soon contact a production company specializing in this field. The return of Ligue 1 is scheduled for August 18.
