Finals night at the Stade de France with the highly anticipated women's 200m event.
The essentials
This Wednesday morning, several French athletes will defend their chances! Starting with Aurélien Quinion and Clémence Beretta in the mixed relay race. Cyréna Samba-Mayela and Laetitia Bapté will try to qualify directly for the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles, just like Jimmy Gressier, Hugo Hay and Yann Schrub in 5000m, or Gabriel Tual, Benjamin Robert and Corentin Le Clezio in 800m.
Another complicated evening for French athletics! While Shana Grebo finished 4th in her 400m hurdles semi-final, Louise Maraval made history by becoming the first French athlete to qualify for the Olympic final in the discipline. At the end of the evening, Alice Finot came close to the feat. Well behind, the Frenchwoman finally finished just off the podium after a crazy comeback. In a tough final, she took the European record.
Canada confirms its supremacy in the hammer throw! After Ethan Katzberg in the men's event, Camryn Rodgers wins the Olympic title ahead of American Annette Nneka Echikunwoke and Chinese Jie Zhao who complete the podium. In the men's long jump, Miltiadis Tentoglou retains his Olympic title ahead of Wayne Pinnock and Italian hopeful Mattia Furlani. At the end of the evening, Gabrielle Thomas put an end to the American drought in the women's 200m. Twelve years after Alyson Felix, she becomes the new Olympic champion ahead of Julien Alfred and her compatriot Brittany Brown.
