Paris 2024 organizers have preserved the traditions of the Olympic Games by not organizing any events on the day of the Opening Ceremony. We will therefore be entitled to a great party on the Seine tomorrow evening, the competitions will resume on Saturday morning.
Laborious, hesitant and lacking confidence at the start of the competition, the French Rugby 7s team appeared much more attractive and pargmatic today in the quarter-final against Argentina. After showing some great sequences of play early in the afternoon against Fiji, Antoine Dupont's teammates gave the spectators at the Stade de France a great moment during their quarter-final against the Argentinian Pumas. It was mainly thanks to a dream first half that the Blues gave themselves the dream of cherishing the hope of an Olympic medal on Saturday. They scored three tries (Tomi, Grandidier 2 tries) and put the Argentinians on the ropes (21-0 at half-time). Subsequently, the French experienced a slight setback which allowed the Argentinians to come back to 7 points in the second period. Dupont's last try freed up the tricolors, who will therefore have a date with history in two days, a date in front of more than 80,000 spectators.
The same cannot be said of the French women's team. Hervé Renard's players ensured the essentials against Colombia by winning 3 goals to 2, but their excellent first half concluded with a three-goal lead suggested that they would be in for a walk in the park against the South Americans. The Rugby 7s semi-finals will take place on Saturday at the Stade de France. France will face South Africa, in a small remake of the quarter-final of the 2023 World Cup, while Fiji will face Australia. The match for third place as well as the final will take place late Saturday evening.
It's over between Australia and the USA. The Wallabies win authoritatively 18-0. The Americans have never managed to to pull their pin out of this game
