After a historic day with 8 medals and the fabulous double ; by Léon Marchand, this Thursday, August 1st could be rich in emotions with judo, kayaking, the Blue foil and the entries in the running of Manaudou and Marchand in the 50m freestyle and 200m medley.

  • The competitions resume early this Thursday, August 1st with the start of the men's 20-kilometer walk at 8 a.m. On the blue side, the day could be rich in new medals with Madeleine Malonga in judo, Charline Picon and Sarah Steyaert in skiff or Titouan Castryck in kayak slalom.
  • On Wednesday, the Blues gleaned three new medals including three titles for Cassandre Beaugrand in triathlon and Léon Marchand twice in swimming (200m butterfly and 200m breaststroke). France already has 26 medals and was in 2nd place in the medal table this morning.

08:34 – Picon-Steyaert to follow in sailing this Thursday for the medal race, a medal possible ?

This would be one of the great French exploits of these Olympic Games. Double Olympic medallist in windsurfing (including a title in Rio), Charline Picon has taken on a crazy challenge by switching to skiff dinghy sailing in a duo with Sarah Steyaert. The two French women, outsiders before the competition, occupy the top of the ranking with the last regatta, the decisive medal race which counts double! To pocket the gold, they will have to get ahead of the Dutch duo, not finish three boats behind the Swedes and four behind the Norwegians. The medal race will take place in the middle of the afternoon in Marseille.

The Swede Perseus Kallstrom moved to the front of the peloton after 7km. The Spaniard Alvaro Martin and the Italian Massimo Stano are just behind, as is the Chinese Jun Zhang. The two Frenchmen are there, Aurélien Quinion has moved up to 8th, 1 second behind the leader, Gabriel Bordier follows in 11th place and remains in the rhythm of the leading men.

The Swede Perseus Kallstrom sets the pace and passes first at the intermediate time placed after 3 kilometers. The French Bordier and Quinion are placed in the peloton.

Madeleine Malonga is the best chance for French judo this Thursday in the -78kg category. If the blue judo already has 7 medals in these Paris Olympics, it is still revolving around a first title.
