Another day of the Paralympic Games this Monday, September 2, with gold medals still awaited.

The essentials

  • Another prolific day for the French delegation! Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noël got the day off to a good start by taking the bronze medal in para badminton in the mixed doubles event, while Jules Ribstein was crowned Paralympic triathlon champion in the PTS2 category, just like Aurélie Aubert in boccia. Alexis Hanquinquant is expected a little later with a hat-trick expected for the French.

The Frenchman wins 3-0 in his eighth final of para table tennis against the Argentinian Elias Romero.

The Frenchwoman wins the first medal in the history of French boccia and it is gold! She wins 5-4 in the BC1 final.

11:04 – Aurélie Aubert still leads 5-3

The Singaporean returns in this final, but Aurélie Aubert still leads by two points before the last set.

10:59 – Nicolas Savant Aira in the running for para table tennis

The Frenchman is playing for a place in the quarter-finals against the Argentinian Elias Romero. He leads one set to zero.

10:50 – Aurélie Aubert in the running for a title

The Frenchwoman is in the final of the Boccia category BC1, and is currently leading 5-0.

10:46 – Cécile Saboureau 6th after the second round

The Frenchwoman lost a place in the second round of cycling in classification PTS2.

The Frenchman crosses the line alone on the Alexandre III bridge and wins the Paralympic title in the PTS2 classification. It is the first medal for French para triathlon.

10:14 – Jules Ribstein still in the lead

The Frenchman comes out on top of the cycling session, with a lead of more than 45 seconds over the second-place finisher and more than a minute and fifteen minutes over the third-place finisher.

10:12 – No Frenchman in the 50m S9 final

A tough blow for Ugo Didier, also 4th in his heat and who does not go through to the final for eight centimes.

10:09 – Hector Denayer 4th in his series

Çit risks being complicated; to qualify for the French, seventh provisional time while there is still one series left.

10:03 – Hector Denayer and Ugo Didier in the pools

The two Frenchmen are competing in the 50m freestyle, in the 2nd and 3rd series respectively. They will have to swim fast this morning in a discipline with a high density.

After silver three years ago, Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noël won the match for the bronze medal and will be on the podium! They beat the Indonesian pair 21-14 21-16.

09:51 – Jules Ribstein in the lead

The Frenchman is perfectly launched towards a Paralympic title after swimming. He is first at the end of the first round of cycling.

09:41 – Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noël win the first set

In the bronze medal match, the French pair just won the first leg 21-14.

09:33 – Start of the second para triathlon

It could be the first medal of the day that could fall, with Jules Ribstein aiming for gold in the PTS2 classification.

09:29 – Louis Noël fourth

No medal for the first Frenchman of the day in para triathlon. Louis Noël finished in fourth place, far from the podium.

09:16 – Jetze Plat Paralympic champion

The Dutchman won the first triathlon of the day ahead of the Austrian Brungraber and another Austrian, Geert Schipper, reigning world champion.

09:09 – Jetze Plat still in the lead

The Dutchman started the para cycling tours, three of them, before being crowned once again Paralympic champion.

08:51 – Australian Lauren Parker in the lead

In the women's race, Australian Lauren Parker leads the way in handbike, ahead of Mexican Brenda Osnaya Alvarez and Canadian Leanne Taylor. The Frenchwoman Mona Francis is currently eighth.

08:42 – Romele in the lead in the first para triathlon

The Italian is followed by the Né Irishman Jetze Plat, who is 20 seconds behind à four laps of the end of triathlon PTWC.

08:30 – The triathlon events kick off the day

A new big day for the Blues ? The triathlon events kick off the hostilities and several medals are expected, notably with Jules Ribstein who is taking part in the PTS2 Triathlon at from 9:30 a.m.

The objective for these 2024 Paralympic Games is quite high for the French delegation, which hopes to break all records, as for the Olympic Games.  "The goal is mainly gold medals, because that's what counts most in the ranking of nations," recalls Marie-Amélie Le Fur. "[…] I was asked if this wasn't a discounted ambition compared to the Olympic top 5. But we had so much lost in performance, we've come a long way. We were 14th in Tokyo; aiming for the top 8 means doubling the number of gold medals, so a real ambition,'' said Marie-Am&eacutelie Le Fur, president of the French Paralympic Committee. As a reminder, in 2021, the French Paralympic delegation won 54 medals, including eleven Olympic titles.
