This Thursday, September 5th could be another very productive day for the French delegation.

  • Will Thursday, September 5th be as crazy as the day before? ? Para cycling is making its comeback with road races. Florian Jouanny, Anaïs Vincent, Loïc Vergnaud, Joseph Fritsch, Johan Quaile and Mathieu Bosredon are all hoping to bring home a medal. The first H1-2 road race with the Tricolore Florian Jouanny will start at 10:30 am due to the torrential rain.

The French Paralympic team is in 5th position in the medal table with 3 days left before the end of these Games. The record for gold medals has already been broken with 15 trinkets and the total from Tokyo (54) is now hanging by a thread.

A very good day for the French clan with twelve new medals, including eleven in road cycling. Lamirault won a disappointing bronze medal when he was aiming for gold. In athletics, Pavade finished 4th in the long jump competition while Adolphe qualified for the 100m final. In wheelchair tennis, the Houdet/Cattaneo pair will play for the bronze medal on Friday.

He there will be no medal for Dimitri Pavadé for 6 small centimeters behind the American Wallace. He bit his last try.

04/09/24 – 9:39 p.m. – Pavadé sees the medal moving away

Wallace's jump of 7.49 pushes Pavadé off the provisional podium as the Tricolore will only have one attempt left to win a medal.

Mpumelelo Mhlongo has just broken the world record in his T44 category by jumping 7.12 m. He remains however in 5th place in this final.

The objective for these 2024 Paralympic Games is quite high for the French delegation, which hopes to break all records, as for the Olympic Games.  "The goal is mainly gold medals, because that's what counts most in the ranking of nations," recalls Marie-Amélie Le Fur. "[…] I was asked if this wasn't a discounted ambition compared to the Olympic top 5. But we had so much lost in performance, we've come a long way. We were 14th in Tokyo; aiming for the top 8 means doubling the number of gold medals, so a real ambition,'' said Marie-Am&eacutelie Le Fur, president of the French Paralympic Committee. As a reminder, in 2021, the French Paralympic delegation won 54 medals, including eleven Olympic titles.
