LIVE. Paralympic Games 2024: Para-triathlon postponed, Adolphe aims for gold, a team medal in cycling hoped for, live

Due to the quality of the Seine water, the 11 épara-triathlon events will not take place this Sunday. In para-athletics, Timothée Adoplhe can hope a gold medal in the 400m. Other hopes are pinned on the 4 French boats in the rowing finals and on the French trio in the 750m sprint by & para-cycling team. Noakes and Mazur will try to reach the final of para-table tennis.

The essentials

  • The 11 para-triathlon events have been won but several medals are expected for this Sunday. Timothée Adoplhe is aiming for gold in the 400m T11. Four French boats are in the rowing finals with high hopes for Nathalié Bénoit and the Cadot-Marchand pair. Le Cunff, Le Rousseau and Léauté will make up the French trio in the 750m team sprint in para-cycling. In para-swimming, Emeline Pierre is expected in the 100m backstroke S10. Noakes and Mazur will aim for a place in the final in para-table tennis.
  • On Saturday, David Foulon won gold in the C5 pursuit. Le Rousseau took bronze by beating Le Cunff in the match for third place in the C4 pursuit. Alex and Kylian Portal each won a medal with silver for the former and bronze for the latter in the 400m freestyle. There was no miracle in para-table tennis, the two French pairs Vautier – Merrien and Herrault – Berthier lost in the semi-finals, they brought France two bronze medals. A pleasant surprise for Arnaud Praud who snatched bronze in the 1500m.

In the women's SL3 quarter-finals, Kozyna returns in the second set to the Turkish Yildiz (14-21, 15-8).

08:41 – Start of the matches in para-badminton

Twenty matches are scheduled for this morning session of para-badminton. Note that two Frenchmen will aim for a place in the final early in the evening. Charles Noakes in SH6 singles (8:00 p.m.) and Lucas Mazur in S4 singles (6:20 p.m.)

This is the big news this morning, the 11 para-triathlon events have been postponed. The quality of the Seine water was not deemed satisfactory for the running of the races.

Tomorrow, it's time for the triathlon at 8:15 a.m. depending on the weather conditions. In archery, places in the final are at stake for Damien Letulle and Maxim Guérin. In athletics, Timothée Adolphe is the favorite for the title in the 400 m T11 at 8:05 p.m. In rowing, five Frenchmen will be competing from 11:10 a.m.

The French clan collected 8 medals today, including the title of Dorian Foulon, the double silver-bronze in swimming with the Portal brothers, the second medal of Alexandre Léauté. Antoine Praud pulled off a surprise in the 1500 m by collecting a bronze medal. Same metal in table tennis with the women's and men's doubles. France is at the top this evening eighth place on the medal table.

08/31/24 – 11:24 p.m. – France bows to Germany

The Blues fall face à Germany (70-64) after a very complicated last quarter. It will now be necessary to go for a victory against the British to avoid the Americans in the quarter-finals.

This end to the match between France and Germany is very tight. With only 5 minutes left to play, the Blues are just behind, just 2 points behind.

The French pair fell to the Indonesians in two sets (21-15, 21-15) and will not see the Olympic final which will see two Indonesian pairs face off. Small final for bronze on Monday.

The French are trailing 15-7 in this second set. They will have to succeed in reverse the trend in the hope of reaching the Olympic final.

08/31/24- 10:17 PM – The French pair concedes the first set

Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel have just conceded the first set 21-15 against the Indonesians in this badminton semi-final.

08/31/24- 10:15 PM – Germany ahead of the break

The Germans are in the lead at the break (36-34). The suspense remains intact in this part.

08/31/24 – 22:10 – Place at the mixed doubles semi-final

In badminton, Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel are in the running to secure a spot in the final. They face the Indonesian pair Setiawan/Sadiyah (n°2).

Already eliminated in the race for the quarter-finals after two defeats at the start, Meril Loquette won his last group match against the Polish Mroz (15-21, 21-19, 21-14).

With 7 minutes left in this second quarter, Germany now has a two-point lead, 25-23.

31/08/24 – 9:54 p.m. – France in the lead after the first quarter

The Blues are two points ahead 19-17 at the end of the first quarter against the Germans.

After a very good start to the match, the Blues were only able to take a two-point lead at just over three minutes left in the first quarter.

The goal for these 2024 Paralympic Games is quite high for the French delegation, which hopes to break all records, as for the Olympic Games.  "The goal is mainly gold medals, because that's what counts most in the ranking of nations," recalls Marie-Amélie Le Fur. "[…] I was asked if this wasn't a discounted ambition compared to the Olympic top 5. But we had so much lost in performance, we've come a long way. We were 14th in Tokyo; aiming for the top 8 means doubling the number of gold medals, so a real ambition,'' said Marie-Am&eacutelie Le Fur, president of the French Paralympic Committee. As a reminder, in 2021, the French Paralympic delegation won 54 medals, including eleven Olympic titles.
