01/09/24- 23:07 – Summary of the day

Another crazy day for these Paralympic Games, a Sunday well stocked with 9 medals (3 of each metal). For once, we were spoiled in terms of gold with three units. That of Emiline Pierre in para-swimming (100m freestyle S10) was the most unexpected, the Frenchwoman confounded all predictions by beating the Canadian favorite Rivard while breaking her French record. Tanguy de la Forest dreamed of this trinket for a long time. At these sixth Paralympic Games, he finally tasted the crown. His victory in the final against the Brazilian Galgani in 10m air rifle was masterfully crafted. Like the 46-year-old shooter, Marie Patouillet climbed onto the highest Paralympic step for her last race of her career at the age of 36. In the C5 pursuit final (para-cycling) she beat her friend Heidi Gaugain who was the clear favourite.

In addition to Gaugain, two other silver medals of different flavors completed the harvest of the Blues this Sunday. The first, that of Gloria Agblemagnon in the F20 weight was a real surprise. The tricolor beat her record by more than 40 centimeters to finish second behind the untouchable Fortune. The second was very bitter, its holder Timothée Adolphe had come to gold and was the big favorite of the 400m T11. Tired by the series of laps, he was overtaken in the final straight by the Venezuelan Santos. The complaint of the staff of the federation did not change anything at the denouement.

Para-rowing gave France its first medals in the discipline. Nathalie Benoit showed her self-sacrifice and endurance to steal third place in the PR1 single sculls, while the French mixed coxed four gave their all to hold on to bronze by six hundredths. The last medal of the day went to Manon Genest, who won bronze in the T54 long jump and celebrated his feat with his 21-month-old daughter.

The success of the Blues in the Blind Football against China and the authoritative qualifications in the para-badminton final of Mazur and Noakes came to embellish this historic Sunday in the Paralympic Games.

01/09/24 – 22:59 – A historic day for Great Britain

While France won 3 gold medals this Sunday, Great Britain collected twelve. Three disciplines were in the spotlight (para-cycling, para-swimming and para-athletics). We should note a very fine success in swimming for the British in the 4 x 100 freestyle S14 mixed (Darbeyn Maskill, Ellard, Newman-Baronius)

01/09/24 – 22:56 – The last meters of Emeline Pierre

Relive the last meters of Emeline Pierre's race in the 100m freestyle S10 final. A breathtaking comeback against Canadian Rivard

01/09/24 – 22:46 – France 5th in the medal table

With 9 medals this Sunday (three of each metal), France is moved up to fifth in the medal standings with 26 medals in total (6 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze)

01/09/24- 22:41 – The apathetic Spanish women

The Spanish basketball players are largely dominated by Canada in women's basketball 32-55, while we are playing in the third quarter.

01/09/24- 22:40 – Para-triathlon events confirmed for tomorrow

Good news, the 11 para-triathlon events have been confirmed for tomorrow morning.

The goal for these 2024 Paralympic Games is quite high for the French delegation, which hopes to break all records, as for the Olympic Games.  "The goal is mainly gold medals, because that's what counts most in the ranking of nations," recalls Marie-Amélie Le Fur. "[…] I was asked if this wasn't a discounted ambition compared to the Olympic top 5. But we had so much lost in performance, we've come a long way. We were 14th in Tokyo; aiming for the top 8 means doubling the number of gold medals, so a real ambition,'' said Marie-Am&eacutelie Le Fur, president of the French Paralympic Committee. As a reminder, in 2021, the French Paralympic delegation won 54 medals, including eleven Olympic titles.
