LIVE. Swimming at the 2024 Olympics: perfect evening for Marchand, Grousset in the 100m final… The summary

Mission accomplished for Léon Marchand who qualified for both finals of the 200m butterfly and breaststroke this Tuesday, July 30.

The essentials

  • Frenchman Leon Marchand strolled through his 200m butterfly semi-final to reach the final, as did Hungarian Milak in the second semi-final. He also qualified a little later in the 200m breaststroke final with the same ease. Emma Terebo and Beryl Gastaldello, entered in the 100m backstroke final, could not do anything by finishing 7th and 8th, as did David Aubry in the 800m. The French 4x200m relay did not achieve the feat of taking a medal.
  • Maxime Grousset qualified. in charge of the 100m freestyle final from the start of this session by posting the 4th time. Beryl Gastaldello and Marie Wattel did not qualify.

22:35 – A mixed evening!

Lined up in two semi-finals this evening, Léon Marchand responded in the 200m butterfly and the 200m breaststroke. In races that he dominated and then managed, the prodigy of French swimming qualified for the two finals that he will compete in on Wednesday evening at La Défense Arena. Serious chances of medals to which Maxime Grousset adds, having qualified for the final of the 100m freestyle early in the evening. This evening, four medals could be won by French swimmers. At the end of a race dominated from start to finish, the British relay runners won in 6:59:43 ahead of the United States and the Australians who completed the podium. In the fight with China for fourth place, the French relay team finally finished in 5th place, in 7:04:80.

Léon Marchand on France 2:  “This morning, I realized that it was possible to do so many races. I am in the final of both races so it's great. Tonight, I tried to free myself. Milak is a very big opponent. ÇIt's going to be a big challenge. (&About the support) I've never experienced that. Today, I have known him four times, so I am making the most of it.

After his first race of the evening, Léon Marchand is back for his second and final semi-final. The French swimmer will try to qualify for the 200m breaststroke final.

Back during the first 150 meters, Australian Zack Stubbletty-Cook won in 2'08"57 ahead of Zhihao Dong and Caspar Corbeau.

When are the swimming events at the Olympic Games ?

The swimming events will begin on Saturday, July 27, with the first medals awarded in the evening, with the finals of the 400 meters and 4x100m freestyle. The events will take place over nine days, until Sunday, August 4.

Where are the events held ?

The pool swimming events will take place at the Défense Arena in Nanterre. The open water swimming will be in the Seine, with a finish at the Pont Alexandre III. Finally, diving, water polo and artistic swimming will be at the Aquatique center in Saint-Denis.
