Sending a short video in addition to your CV to stand out from other applicants is Impress's motto. The application, launched in early 2024, aims to establish itself as an alternative in recruitment at a time when artificial intelligence (AI) is standardizing applications.

A relevant format for young candidates

Guillaume de Malzac, founder of Impress, drew on his personal experience to develop this solution. ” When I was managing the company I co-founded (AR24, sold to the La Poste group in 2020) and I was recruiting, cover letters were a constant source of frustration. I felt compelled to ask for them to make sure the candidate knew what they were applying for, but I almost only received copy/pasted letters ,” he explains in an interview with Studyrama.

He then thought about an effective tool to allow candidates to stand out. A Canadian study published in 2020 showed him the way. The latter showed that video increases the chances of being called back by 23%, a figure reaching 38% for candidates discriminated against on their CV.

With Impress, users can create a short video to send to recruiters, as a replacement or in addition to the cover letter. The candidate is asked four questions to allow them to get straight to the point. ” They can film themselves in as many takes as necessary, in several stages of 5 to 30 seconds each. Once the recordings are finished, the application automatically edits the different stages to make a single video edited in story format “, continues the entrepreneur. A prompter system is also available to make their task easier.

This format is particularly attractive to young profiles with little experience, especially because they are more comfortable with this type of content. It not only allows them to stand out from the competition, but also to avoid resorting to artificial intelligence.

Impress offers more personalization for recruiters

Impress also has features dedicated to recruiters. For example, they can react to candidates' videos, by advising them on things to improve or by asking them more questions. They also have the option of inviting applicants to use Impress in their job offers. By creating an account on the application, they are able to personalize the presentation of candidates according to their specific needs, such as mastery of a foreign language.

The platform is establishing itself as a real plus in the recruitment process, while certain sectors favor less and less traditional cover letters and CVs.

Available on iOS and Android, Impress has just been listed on France Travail's Emploi Store, a free online platform bringing together various digital services to help French people in their job search.
