Looking forward to using the new macOS Sequoia ? We have great news

Traditionally, new versions of iOS and macOS are not released at the same time. For example, last year, iOS 17 was released on September 18, while macOS Sonoma was released on September 26. Sometimes, new versions of macOS can even arrive in October or November. But this year, Apple is making an exception. At least, that’s what a recent article from MacRumors suggests. Indeed, according to the sources of this media, Apple is planning to release macOS Sequoia in mid-September, more or less at the same time as iOS 18.

A logical explanation: the launch of iPhone Mirroring

And there would be a good reason for this. As you may already know, macOS Sequoia includes an iPhone mirroring feature, which allows the user to use their iPhone (view the contents of the screen and open apps) on the screen of their Mac. However, to ensure that this feature, which concerns both platforms, works properly, it would be ideal to launch iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia at the same time.

macOS Sequoia available from September 18 ?

According to MacRumors' explanations, Apple should launch the new iPhones on September 10, for marketing from September 20. As for iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, they could be available from September 18. But as usual, for the moment, this information is not yet official and therefore, it should be considered with caution.

Features that will not be immediately available in Europe

Unfortunately, some of Apple’s new iPhone and Mac features won’t be available in the European Union this year. Citing regulatory uncertainty, the company has already indicated that iPhone Mirroring, new SharePlay Screen Sharing, and Apple Intelligence will not be available to EU users this year. However, new clues have suggested that Apple Intelligence may ultimately come to Macs, but not to iPhones and iPads. This could mean that macOS Sequoia will be the only way to test Apple’s new AI features in the European Union at first. While this remains to be confirmed, such a move would make sense. Indeed, the Digital Markets Act rules in Europe only apply to the iOS and iPadOS platforms, but not to the macOS platform.

  • Apple typically releases the new version of iOS first, before releasing the new version of macOS
  • But this year, the company could make an exception and launch iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia at the same time
  • This dual launch would allow the company to ensure that the iPhone Mirroring feature, which allows you to control your iPhone on a Mac screen, works properly
  • On the other hand, it should be noted that iPhone Mirroring will not be available in the EU this year
