A major accident caused the complete closure of Autoroute 30, in both directions, between Avenue des Jasmins and rue des Glaïeuls, in Bécancour. Several people were injured, including three who are in critical condition.

According to initial information collected by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), five vehicles, including three heavy goods vehicles, were involved in several collisions that occurred around 2:15 p.m. Monday afternoon. A car and a van are the other two vehicles on the scene.

For a reason that remains to be established, a first vehicle would have deviated from its trajectory to end up in the opposite direction. Is it an overrun that went wrong or something else? A fire broke out after what appears to be a series of collisions. A thick plume of smoke was also visible several kilometers from the accident site. The firefighters are currently continuing their intervention.

The scene still extends over several meters, explains the Sergeant Cossette. There were multiple impacts leading to the final collision, where the vehicles caught fire.

All five drivers were injured. Three are in critical condition; we fear for their lives. The other two were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be minor.
