Traditionally scheduled for February 17, the winter fair is postponed by 24 hours. Midi Libre – ALEXIS BETHUNE

Usually organized on January 17 of each year, the winter fair is, for 2025, postponed to January 18 by the town hall. Simple reason: it will be a Saturday.

Every January 17, Alès lives this day to the rhythm of the winter fair, where the stands of traders (sedentary and non-sedentary) are active, sometimes by the hundreds, in the streets of the city center to offer good deals.

This day falling, this year, on a Friday, the City decided, “exceptionally” and after “consultation and discussions with the associations representing traders” , to postpone it to the following day, Saturday January 18. The weekend being more conducive to attracting customers to the streets, the City hopes, in this way, to make the fair a “more important commercial meeting” .

A clearance sale maintained

However, there will still be activity on the program for Friday January 17: the City authorizes traders to hold a clearance sale. This will allow shops in the city centre to spread their products out into the street on this day as well.

Consequently, car traffic will be prohibited in several areas during these two days:

– Friday, January 17: traffic prohibited on the streets Saint-Vincent, Taisson, Beauteville, Avéjan and Docteur Serres from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. “Only the orange shuttle and emergency vehicles will be allowed to circulate on rue Saint-Vincent”, specifies the town hall.

– Saturday, January 18: traffic prohibited between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the perimeters encompassing the following roads and squares: rue Beauteville, Avéjan, Taisson, Edgar-Quinet, Michelet; Louis-Blanc Boulevard; Barbusse and City Hall Squares.
