“Voucher verification operation of the installations”

Contacted, SNCF Réseau justifies this intervention by a simple “verification of the proper functioning of the installations”. The Pont Levis level crossing is equipped with safety barriers and traffic lights. A system supposed to be activated when a train passes on the tracks.“Our teams intervene on site as long as necessary. This level crossing is under surveillance, but the safety system as a whole is not called into question.”

Subject taken “very seriously”

While the origin and reasons for the report have not been specified, local residents are concerned about “serious problems” related to the safety of this level crossing. An idea that the railway company refutes. It nevertheless adds that the subject is taken “very seriously”. The SNCF, which regularly organises risk prevention campaigns at level crossings and in stations throughout France, states that the Sète level crossing “is not considered dangerous or accident-prone”.

During the checks, the closure of the level crossing to road and pedestrian traffic was decided until this Friday, February 7, in the afternoon. Time for technicians to intervene. Rail traffic, however, is operating normally.
