IN BRIEF

  • Malik Bentalha makes his big comeback on sc& egrave;ne after 4 years of absence
  • For our colleagues from Le Parisien, the comedian returned to his periods darker
  • Indeed, he was confronted with a great depression

He is finally back. At 35, Malik Bentalha returns to the stage with his show New world.&On this occasion, the comedian gave an interview to our colleagues at Parisien, in which the comedian &discusses many subjects such as his depression. A subject that he &discusses on stage: It's something painful, vicious, we're in denial. With social networks, we're forbidden to feel bad. I was shutting myself away at every level, I was staying at home looking at my cell phone, eating, I was letting myself sink, , confides the actor.

And the consequences were difficult to live with for Malik Bentalha. “And then there was this movie that I really wanted to make. At the costume fittings, I started lying about my size. I was sabotaging myself. “Three weeks into shooting, I told the director that I couldn't do the movie, that I wouldn't be able to watch myself on screen. It was no longer possible…”.

Malik Bentalha was able to get out of his depression

So, one day, something clicked: “Either I locked myself in my bubble, or I decided to get up and come back stronger. It was April 2023. I started my first workout session. After three minutes at 5 km/h, I was aching all over. But I kept going step by step”, he reveals.

And this decision has been beneficial to him on all counts. Indeed, the comedian went from 122 to 70 kg : “If someone had told me five years ago that I would go back on stage and talk about my parents' separation, my depression, my obesity, and of all that I have finished, of the fact that I am happy, I would not have believed it. I would never have said when I was twenty, when I was living in Paris intra-muros!”.

“I needed to know…”

Thus, in this new show, which he wrote, Malik Bentalha was able to get his mojo back. It must be said that it had been 4 years since he had last been on stage: “I decided to lay fallow. I needed to know what direction to give to the rest of my little career, to see how the world is evolving, and to listen to myself more”. And for good reason, the failures have been many.

But he didn't lose hope: “There is one thing that is missing today: humor, it's the Guignols de l'info. It was a clowning around in the face of stupidity in this spirit, to underline the absurdities of the time”.
