Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was bitten by a police dog while that he was on the run, according to the information communicated.
According to the SIU, on October 13, the agents Ontario Provincial Police responded to Midland, about 150 km north of Toronto, after a call about two men with a gun.
One of the suspects fled, but was found by a police dog who bit him.
He was arrested and taken to hospital.
The 45-year-old man died in hospital on Sunday. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
Provincial police reported his death Monday to the Special Investigations Unit, an independent agency which investigates in particular when a civilian is killed or seriously injured during a police intervention.
