Prime Minister François Legault did not want to prolong the suspense: 24 hours after the departure of Éric Lefebvre from the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) caucus, he announced that the member for Blainville , Mario Laframboise, will replace him as government whip.
“I participated in the weekly caucus of CAQ deputies this evening. I took the opportunity to announce to them the appointment of Mario Laframboise as chief government whip,” wrote the Prime Minister on the social network X, Wednesday evening.

Mr. Laframboise gives up his place as caucus president to the member for Mégantic, François Jacques. “I am convinced that Mario and François will allow us to maintain the smooth functioning and cohesion of our team,” added François Legault.
Éric Lefebvre, who represents the riding of Arthabaska, announced Tuesday evening on X that he was leaving the CAQ to run with the conservative troops in the next federal election. He will sit as an independent in the meantime.
