Control operation on the illegal market of La Paillade

#MONTPELLIER For several weeks, tension has been rising on the illegal market of La Paillade, a few steps from the Quatre-Saisons market halls.

On Saturday, December 21, a dozen hooded people armed with mortars fired on these fruit and vegetable vendors who operate on the ground. A customer had even been injured.

This Saturday, December 28, in the morning, the police came to try to restore some order on the scene, while only about ten vendors had moved. Without any real clashes but with some verbal tension. Around 10:30 a.m., the wild market was closed and the products seized. It remains to be seen whether this operation will have any effect.

Michel Fromont, founder of the Mozart circle, has died

#OCCITANIE Michel Fromont has died at the age of 87. In Montpellier, he is particularly known for having embodied Freemasonry, responsible for the lodge of the Grand Orient of France, and in the process, for having created its little sister, in 2009, namely the Cercle Mozart, a“private club bringing together business leaders, lawyers, academics, doctors but also traders and craftsmen, he confided at the time to Midi Libre. And a few politicians. But for all that, we are an apolitical and exclusively male think tank.”
This Saturday, December 28, this former business leader who was also president of the Departmental Federation of Building and Public Works, president of the commercial court, regional president of the CCI and president of the Montpellier Méditerranée airport left us.
His funeral should be held on Friday, January 3 or Monday, January 6, in Pérols, the town where he lived and to which he was very attached.

Victory for the baker

#SÉRIGNANValentin Garcia, a baker, has finally obtained his building permit to carry out the project of a producers' store and snack restaurant that he has been working on for several months.

After obtaining approval from the CDAC (departmental commission for commercial development), he had come up against an appeal filed by the director of the neighboring Carrefour store.

He is supported by local elected officials as well as the chamber of trades. His fight has, in a way, symbolically become that of craftsmanship against large-scale distribution. But nothing is certain yet. The building permit can be appealed for a period of two months.

A rugby competition

#MILLAU Thomas Roques, SOM hooker, is taking part in the Mister amateur rugby competition, launched by the Facebook page “Rugby amateur”.

On the principle of volunteering, players from the Federal teams apply before being selected. “When my profile was selected, the whole team supported me and against Fréjus, on the first ball I caught, a player opposite said “watch out, it's the star who has the balllon”, it was good-natured!”

This unique adventure quickly ended, the Millavois did not have enough votes to qualify for the final.

The figure of the day: 18,800

#GARD This is the number of “active” hunters in the department. Most of them practice several hunting methods and 13,300 practice big game hunting (especially wild boar).
A type of hunting that is not without risk, if the most basic safety rules are ignored. Also, the departmental federation sets up training courses, including a former police officer, an expert in shooting and ballistics, who gives them advice.
