The central defender of Montpellier HSC, Nikola Maksimovic underwent surgery this Thursday, announced the Hérault club. Saturday, during the defeat conceded in Lyon (1-0), he had been seriously injured in a thigh before an absence for the rest of the season was confirmed, as revealed by Midi Libre.

“Nikola Maksimović's operation was successful at the Clinique Saint-Roch. Our Serbian defender will be sidelined for several months,” wrote MHSC on its social networks, wishing its player a “speedy recovery.”

Maksimovic suffered a left hamstring detachment after a tackle on Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette on Saturday, January 4 in Décines. The Hérault defender had to leave the field on a stretcher in the 64th minute.

Recruitment and Kouyaté

From then on, suspicion of a serious injury and a long absence had spread through the ranks of Pailladins. Fears confirmed at the beginning of the week within a club that could, consequently, take advantage of the winter transfer window to recruit for this position.

The Ligue 1 ranking

Maksimovic, who had played in Italy (Torina, Naples, Genoa), had been recruited urgently at the end of October by an MHSC conceding too many goals and facing a shortage of defenders. The Serbian had quickly conquered La Paillade with his positioning and recovery skills. Without him, coach Jean-Louis Gasset and his staff will have to hope that “Kiki” Kouyaté quickly returns to his level in the coming days, after six months without playing and a knee operation.
