Selon L’Équipe, le président de Montpellier, Laurent Nicollinhas reportedly decided to remove the armband from his captain Téji Savanier for the Ligue 1 match in Lyon on Saturday, January 4.

A decision that follows the player's comments to local supporters during the match at Le Puy (4-0) in the Coupe de France on December 20. Taken to task over the club's situation, he responded: “When you're on 210,000 euros, it's fine.”

Savanier on the bench ?

Despite apologies, the next day, on the club's website, Laurent Nicollin decided to act, this Friday, January 3, in the morning, just before his players left for Lyon.

Jean-Louis Gasset, the coach, questioned about the case of his captain in a press conference the day before, had said that he would adapt to the presidential decision. He will therefore have to name a new captain and Téji Savanier could start the match on the bench.
