Microsoft insists: You may need to buy a new PC to continue using Windows

Windows 10 is coming to an end. Microsoft will officially end support for this version of its OS on October 14. From that date on, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates, except on devices that benefit from a paid extension of this support. And unfortunately, many PCs are incompatible with Windows 11, due to Microsoft's hardware requirements.

As a reminder, the minimum requirements for Windows 11 include the presence of a TPM 2.0, a security component that is not found on many devices currently running Windows 10. Estimates put the number of devices affected by this requirement in the hundreds of millions. And unfortunately, as the Windows 10 support date approaches, Microsoft is not about to back down on this requirement.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

On the contrary, the company is doing everything it can to discourage the installation of Windows 11 on PCs that do not meet the minimum criteria. As noted by the Neowin site, Microsoft has quietly removed from its website a guide that showed how to force the installation of Windows 11 on incompatible PCs (while explaining that there may be problems). But that's not all, since, as 01Net notes, Microsoft Defender software has also started blocking applications that help users bypass the company's requirements to install Windows 11.

What solutions after October 14 ?

After October 14, if you have a Windows 10 machine that is not compatible with Windows 11, and you do not pay for an extension of support, you will have to buy a new PC or install an alternative to Windows 10 on your computer. Among these, there is Linux, which is free and open source.

However, you can also install Chrome OS Flex, a lightweight version of Chrome OS that is offered by Google to extend the life of old machines. This one has the advantage of being fluid and intuitive.

  • Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 in October
  • And the company discourages those who want to force the installation of Windows 11 on incompatible PCs
  • Those who do not wish to buy a new PC with Windows 11 can opt for other operating systems, such as Linux or Chrome OS Flex
