It was believed that Microsoft would gradually abandon the Office brand when, in 2022, it replaced the brand with Microsoft 365 on its subscriptions. However, while Microsoft continues to focus on subscriptions and the cloud, it continues to offer its software under the old format: the lifetime license. Although the Office subscription has been replaced by Microsoft 365, Microsoft has continued to offer Office 2021. And this October, it’s even launching a new version: Microsoft Office 2024.

Office is holding out

“Microsoft 365 is the best way to get the latest versions of the productivity apps that millions of people use every day to bring ideas to life and get things done. But we know that some of our customers still prefer access to our familiar apps without a subscription. That's why we're releasing Office 2024 on October 1 for individuals and small businesses,” Microsoft explained in a blog post published on September 30.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

Available for Windows 10, Windows 11 and the three most recent versions of macOS, Office 2024 includes updated versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote software that will be locked in time. In other words, while Office 2024 allows you to have a lifetime license, it does not allow you to have the new features that will be offered via the Microsoft 365 subscription.

How much does Office 2024 cost ?

As our colleagues at 01Net explain, Microsoft offers two offers. On the one hand, there is the Home version, which costs 149 euros. This license allows you to use Office 2024 software on a PC or Mac. And on the other, there is the Office Home & Business 2024 which costs 299 euros. In addition to the basic software, this license also includes Outlook and gives the right to use Office for commercial purposes.

  • In 2022, Microsoft replaced the Office subscription with Microsoft 365
  • However, this does not mean that the firm has completely abandoned the Office brand
  • Microsoft favors subscriptions, but now offers a new Office 2024 license for those who prefer to buy the software
  • Office 2024 includes updated, but time-locked, versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • The Home version costs 149 euros, while the Office Home & Business 2024 costs 299 euros
