Mirabel CAQ MNA Sylvie D’Amours is closing her office for an “indefinite period” due to an “accumulation of misdeeds and threats.” In a Facebook post, she wants to “set the record straight” on her government’s modernization of flood zone maps and asks her constituents not to “panic.”

“Recently, projectiles were fired at the window of our offices. You will understand that I cannot accept this situation. The doors of my office have always been wide open for everyone. But right now, I want to protect us.” “We have the right to work in a safe and peaceful place,” she wrote on the social network Tuesday.

The Lac des Deux-Montagnes police indicated that the shots were fired by a pellet gun on October 11. Inspector Jean-Philippe Labbé told The Canadian Press that an investigation was underway to find a suspect in this case.

The government is currently working on modernizing flood zone mapping, which is causing concern.

In her message on the social network, Sylvie D’Amours states that “misleading information is circulating, causing panic among residents of the Lower Laurentians and throughout Quebec” on this subject.

“So I wanted to address you today and set the record straight,” wrote Ms. D’Amours. The MP assures that “the goal is not to relocate residents and citizens from flood zones, but to increase their safety and protect their property while protecting the environment.”

“To ensure the safety and resilience of communities, we must adopt a modernized regulatory framework, based on science and accompanied by mapping that represents the real risks of flooding and allows citizens to know this risk,” she continues.

“I call on citizens to take their pills”

In a press scrum at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Sylvie D’Amours said that the situation should not be attributed solely to the issue of flood zones, citing a series of events such as the floods of 2017 and 2019, or the pandemic. “I also have Kanesatake in my riding where there are some hot files,” she said.

“So it is an accumulation of misdeeds and threats that led me to make the decision, with my employees, to close the office temporarily, while everyone regains their mental health and I call on citizens to take their pills,” added Ms. D’Amours.
