A start to the coronation that is not without its concerns. On December 14, Angélique Angarni-Filoppon was elected Miss France 2025. But now the young woman has found herself in a controversy after she did not respond to a question from a journalist from Sud Radio, who asked her if she was Charlie, in reference to the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo editorial office on January 7, 2025.

Faced with this question, the beauty queen had indicated that she did not want to comment. The sequence quickly caused controversy. Faced with this scandal, Vaimalama Chaves, Miss France 2019 spoke out on Instagram.

Indeed, the former beauty queen wanted to let out a big rant. “Pause! Quick! I need to rant”, she begins by writing. “I'm tired. As a mixed-race person, as a former Miss France and especially as a woman, I'm tired of reading racism, insults and hatredthat 'freedom of expression' allows,” she writes. Indeed, since then, Angélique Angarni-Filopon has been protected by the police.

For Vaimalama Chaves, it would be urgent to review the definition of freedom of expression, which “is not the right to spread hatred under the pretext of sharing an opinion”. Miss France 2019 says she is extremely shocked by so much hatred against the current Miss France. “How could it be possible to say that a better future is possible when it is intolerable to speak out against blasphemy”.

The young woman then gives her strong opinion: “I am not for what happened at Charlie Hebdo. However, I am not for what they are doing. The lack of respect is offensive and not everyone can agree with ça”, she wrote.

Very upset, Vaimalama Chaves defends her colleague: “Angelique has the right to say that she is not Charlie! It is her most fundamental right to exist as she is !”, she says. “How can anyone dare attack her because she has an opinion ? &To those who denigrate and are bad, no one would like to be insulted like that. Not even you, Vaimalama Chaves explains to her community. Especially not en masse”.
