Maya, a 9-year-old girl who is visually and hearing impaired, disappeared this Sunday, then she was found yesterday in an abandoned house, alongside a 41-year-old homeless man.

The man had been deprived of his liberty and questioned by the local justice system. The investigating judge was instructed by the public prosecutor to investigate the charge of sexual assault and abduction of a minor under 12 years of age, reports RTL Info. Although she was found in good health, Maya was taken to hospital for “thorough medical examinations”.

“At this stage, all the elements necessary to establish the facts precisely are not yet available. The investigation must continue to clarify the exact circumstances of the events of the night of 12 to 13 January. The prosecution specifies that no definitive conclusion can be drawn at this stage concerning the exact sequence of events or the possible guilt of the suspect in relation to the charges”, the judicial authority indicated in a press release quoted by The Evening.

The discovery of little Maya was possible thanks to the significant resources deployed.“This rapid discovery was possible thanks to the good coordination of the Charleroi police services and the federal police's disappearance unit, which used all available resources (tracking dog, helicopter, use of surveillance cameras)”.
