A commercial establishment in the northwest of Montreal suffered significant damage early Monday night when&#x27 ;it was destroyed by an arson fire, according to what the authorities were able to establish.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) did not report any injuries, and no arrests could be made.

At around 12:20 a.m., a call to the 911 telephone exchange reported that a fire was in progress in the establishment located on boulevard de Pierrefonds, near the intersection of rue Hamel, in a commercial and residential sector of the Sainte-Geneviève district.

A window in the building was smashed and accelerants were spilled inside, according to firefighters.

Upon their arrival, firefighters from the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SSIM) were able to extinguish the flames quickly, but significant damage had already been caused to the building.

A brief inspection of the premises allowed the firefighters to note that a window of the building had been smashed and that accelerants had been spread inside. No incendiary object was located, however.

The firefighters sent the file to the ;#x27;SPVM arson squad which will send investigators to the scene later in the day. Police officers were to try in the meantime to determine whether surveillance cameras in the neighborhood were able to capture images that could help the investigation progress.
