More than 100 kilos of spoiled seafood seized during a road check in the Mèze area

Shrimps, whelks and other scallops, unfit for consumption, were seized before they were sold. They were intended for the markets of Provence. It was the gendarmes of the Marseillan nautical brigade and maritime affairs who intercepted them, during this weekend of December 28 and 29.

A little over 100 kilos of products unfit for consumption were seized during a joint operation by the gendarmerie and maritime affairs in the Thau basin sector. The soldiers involved in this inspection found 25 kg of scallops, 90 kg of shrimp, 20 kg of whelks and 38 pots of aioli that could not be consumed.

A major road check

This weekend, the gendarmes of the Marseillan nautical brigade, as well as the men of the Sète Maritime Affairs carried out numerous road checks to ensure the quality of the products from the Thau lagoon. Thus 22 vehicles and 31 oyster farmers were visited by the inspectors. It was in a delivery truck that was heading towards Provence that food unfit for consumption was discovered. It was seized and destroyed. The transporter as well as the seller will have to explain the quality of their products.
