This Friday evening, Walid Regragui's Morocco begins preparations for CAN 2025& ;nbsp;against Gabon. Before the match, the Moroccan coach gave his opinion on the exotic career choices of some players. This Friday evening, Morocco begins the preparation of the CAN 2025 where it will play the competition at home. For this first match of the qualifiers, the Lions of #39;Atlas face Gabon. While some of his executives like Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nesyri or Azzedine Ounahi respectively left Manchester United, FC Seville and Olympique de Marseille to join Fenerbahce (Amrabat and En-Nesyri) and Panathinaikos, Walid Regragui supported the choice of his players despite criticism: “What matters is that the players play regularly. They have found solutions. I want happy players, who have found their level again. I hope they get some playing time and continue to give to this team. They haven't joined top clubs, but they all play for good clubs. The main thing is that the transfer window issues are resolved”. Before continuing: “In my choices, I take into consideration much more the players' fitness. The interest of the national selection remains my priority”. This summer, the Moroccan selection shone at the 2024 Olympic Games. Accompanied by Achraf Hakimi and Mohamed Elneny, the hopefuls won the bronze medal. A historic performance on which Walid Regragui is counting on strengthening his group and taking advantage of the emergence of certain talents to move forward: “The Olympians are growing with the A team. They have, moreover, grown a lot with the Paris Games. All the markers are green to move forward”. “These players will certainly give a plus to the national team. They are the present and the future and their presence will offer us a lot of technical and tactical choices”, added Achraf Hakimi, Atlas Lions executive. Already qualified for CAN 2025 as host country, Morocco is playing its qualifiers by approaching the matches with a real challenge, as coach Walid Regragui confirmed in a press conference: “These matches, against difficult opponents, offer us the opportunity to face different playing styles”. Indeed, these numerous matches on the program will allow us to build a squad, refine tactics in view of the CAN, but also the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup. The kick-off of the CAN 2025 qualifiers match between Morocco and Gabon is scheduled for Friday, September 6 at 8:00 p.m. at the Grand Stade in Agadir.
