Le champion du monde en titre de Moto GP Jorge Martin a été transporté à l’hôpital après une grosse chute lors d’essais de pré-saison sur le circuit de Sepang en Malaisie.

The 27-year-old Spanish rider lost control of his Aprilia and flew off, landing heavily on the track and hitting his head, to the point that his visor was torn off.

He initially reported pain in a foot and hand and was hospitalised for tests.

At the start of this first pre-season test session, “Martinator” had already fallen but had not suffered any injury.

The world champion has joined the manufacturer Aprilia

Martin won his first MotoGP world championship title in 2024 riding a Ducati from the Pramac team, and joined Aprilia in the off-season.

The first Grand Prix of the 2025 season is scheduled for March 2 in Thailand.

Fractured hand and foot

Taken to the circuit's medical center, Martin was then transferred to a nearby hospital where he was diagnosed with “fractures of the head of the fifth metacarpal of the left hand and the third, fourth and fifth metatarsals of the left foot,” his team said.

The Madrid native “will spend the night in hospital and return to Europe tomorrow (Thursday) to undergo surgery on his foot and hand,” Aprilia added.

The Spaniard is expected to miss the second test session next week in Thailand and his participation in the first Grand Prix of the 2025 season, scheduled for March 2, also in Thailand, is uncertain.

A massacre of falls during testing

This first day of pre-season testing was marked by a massacre as many riders fell and two were also injured.

The Spaniard Raul Fernandez (Aprilia-Trackhouse) suffered a fracture of a metacarpal of his left hand and a toe of his left foot, while the Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati-VR46) fractured his left collarbone. The two men will return to Europe on Wednesday evening to undergo surgery.
