Le jeune homme s’est rendu à la police après les faits.

A 16-year-old teenager was charged and placed in pre-trial detention on Monday, January 13, for the murder of a 14-year-old boy that occurred this Friday in Évreux during an altercation related to a lovers' quarrel.

The teenager, suspected of having inflicted the fatal injury on Friday evening in the sensitive Madeleine district of Évreux before reporting himself to the police, was imprisoned on Sunday for the murder of a minor under the age of 15, the public prosecutor of Évreux, Rémi Coutin, said during a press briefing. He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison due to his minority.

“This is a tragedy which, according to the elements we have today, stems from facts of terrible banality,” the magistrate specified. “Unfortunately, social media played a significant role in what happened Friday night.”

During his police custody, the alleged attacker explained that he was walking with a friend after leaving high school when he came across the future victim, whom he knew and who was the girl's former “boyfriend”. He then allegedly assured that he had “no intentions towards the young girl”, “but the exchange ended with his interlocutor threatening to tell him that he no longer wanted to communicate with him on social networks”, added Mr. Coutin.

Opinel type knife

After several exchanges of messages on social networks and a call to ” explain”, the teenager allegedly went to a meeting where according to him seven young people were waiting for him, after taking an Opinel-type knife with him. The discussion reportedly degenerated and the The accused stabbed the victim in the chest, saying he had aimed for the arm, after being slapped. “He denied having intended to kill the victim”, the magistrate said.

A file Audio from a witness to the scene, recovered by investigators on Snapchat, indicates that the teenager “kicked his opponent after being hit by him”, Mr. Coutin said. The young man then sought refuge with neighbors, whom he allegedly asked to call the police. He was arrested shortly after and taken into custody.

The autopsy of the victim will take place Tuesday in Rouen. Neither of the two teenagers had previously been convicted by the courts, according to the magistrate.
