The day after National Brain Cancer Day, which took place on December 2, the Montpellier association Des étoiles dans la mer presented two checks for €20,000 for research.
Identifying environmental factors
The first, intended for the epidemiology work carried out by Dr. Luc Bauchet and Professor Valérie Rigau. This research is intended to understand the risk factors for glioblastomas (a form of brain cancer that is currently incurable) among the population. The French Brain Tumor Database (FBTDB) coordinated by Dr. Bauchet has made it possible to identify areas in France where brain tumors, particularly glioblastoma, are more common. These observations listed in a national register could help to better identify environmental factors in particular.
Developing a treatment for glioblastoma
The other check for €20,000 presented by Des étoiles dans la mer is intended for glioblastoma therapy. This sum will support the team of Professor Jean-Philippe Hugnot, at the Institute of Functional Genomics (IGF) in Montpellier. His project: to develop a targeted treatment for this very aggressive brain tumor, which is still poorly controlled.
