Third day of the League of Nations on the program with the team of France who must replay against Belgium
Les Bleus had to react, Les Bleus managed to do so. Against Israel, in a complicated geopolitical context, the French team won its second Nations League match with a score of 4-1 against the Israelis. Despite the surprise equalizer, France was clearly superior despite errors that the coach noted at the end of the match. “We had a lot of striking situations, especially in the first half. The substitutes ? It has never been our strong point. It does not take away from the merit of Mattéo and Bradley, who scored. It is very good. The speech at the break ? There is the loss of the ball which leads to the equalizer. I was rather critical at half-time. We had losses of the ball that we should not have. The opponent feeds on that. A bit of excess confidence or ease… We had some ball losses that we shouldn't have in the first half. We had to be a bit more focused.”
The Blues take advantage of Italy's misstep, a 2-2 draw against Belgium, to get back to 1 point. The French team's next match, Monday October 14 at 8:45 p.m. against Belgium as Italy faces Israel.
The New Rules
The fourth edition of the Nations League began in September 2024, with several major changes to the key. While the organization by league is in continuity with previous editions, with four leagues A, B, C and D in order of level, quarter-finals and promotion/relegation play-offs have been added to the system.
For the first time in this 2024-2025 edition, quarter-finals were scheduled before the Final Four, bringing together the four best teams in the tournament. The direct elimination phase was thus reserved for the first two teams in each group of League A, whereas previously only the first could participate.
The quarter-finals of the 2025 Nations League, with the eight qualified teams, have been planned according to classic two-legged matches, before the semi-finals and the final, organized as single matches in a host country, as in previous editions.
Also for the first time, promotion and relegation play-offs between leagues have been planned. As in the first three editions, the last team in each group is relegated to the lower league and the first team is promoted to the higher league. The new feature is therefore a play-off between the third-placed teams in each group against the second-placed teams in the lower league, still according to the principle of two-legged matches. With League D comprising only 6 teams, only the top two teams have a chance of promotion to the top league, while the two worst fourth-placed teams in League C are doomed to relegation.

The Nations League is organized into four leagues. The top four and the four runners-up from the League A groups qualify for the quarter-finals in two-legged matches, then the winners play in the Final Four (semi-finals + final).
The winners of the Leagues B, C and D groups are promoted to the higher leagues and the bottom teams from Leagues A and B are relegated to the lower leagues. Each team ranked third in its group play a two-legged play-off to stay up, against a second-placed team from the lower league who are playing for promotion.
Since League D only has 6 teams, only the two teams that came top of their group go up, and the two weakest fourth-placed teams from League C go down.
The 2024-2025 Nations League distributes four precious tickets for the 2026 World Cup play-offs. The top four nations in the ranking general of the League of Nations (a 4th in a League A group is just ahead of a 1st in a League B group for example), who are not already directly qualified for the World Cup or the play-offs via the qualifiers, win these tickets. These four teams will join the twelve teams that will have finished second in the group in the qualifiers, to be divided into four paths of four teams in the form of a semi-final and final in single matches, each path winner qualifying for the World Cup.
