Nearly 43,000 BC Hydro customers remain without power since Friday

The storm that hit the coast of British Columbia damaged numerous electrical transmission lines, causing a power outage in several regions of the province. Nearly 43,000 customers are still without power, with the majority of affected customers in Surrey.

However, BC Hydro repair teams have made a lot of progress.

The company's latest update indicates that more than 190,000 of the 235,000 affected customers now have power.

All available BC Hydro and contractor crews will continue to work around the clock until power is restored, the update states. day adding that electricity could be restored to the majority of customers this evening.

Some customers will be without electricity tonight, warns the company which thanks them for their patience.

Environment Canada has, for its part, issued a rain warning for the Fraser Valley, including Hope. Torrential rains may cause flash flooding and accumulation of water on roads, the warning said, adding that 10 to 20 mm of rain is expected.

Another warning from the federal agency asks motorists to drive with caution in the area due to very heavy snow accumulation on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope to Merritt, up to 27 ;at 40 cm.

Between 6 and 10 inches of snow are also expected on Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton through Allison Pass, and from Manning to the Valley by Skagit.
