New site for reporting non-emergency crimes

The RCMP's new online reporting tool makes it possible to report non-emergency crimes, such as thefts under $5,000.

The RCMP has just launched an online service that allows citizens to report non-urgent crimes to them on Prince Edward Island.

Citizens will be able to use it to report thefts under $5,000 and minor crimes.

Law enforcement warns the app should not be used to report the theft of guns, credit cards, personal information.

The site cannot be used in areas that are not served by the RCMP, for example a city with its own municipal police force.

Good While this method offers citizens the possibility of not having to call or visit the RCMP detachment in their area, Sergeant Shaun Coady specifies that citizens should still call 911 in the event of an emergency.

The RCMP says they have already started obtaining reports using the new application.

This reporting system was also recently deployed in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
