Nîmes Olympique: desperately looking for goal scorer(s)

Like Vincent Marcel, who tries to escape the captain of Le Mans Samuel Yohou, the Crocos know how to play well but lack flair and determination in the truth zone. Midi Libre – Mikaël Anisset

Facing Le Mans (0-0), Friday evening, for the 14th day of National, the Crocos were once again unable to capitalize on their strong moments.

Adil Hermach, who no longer knows which saint to turn to, came to the point, Friday December 6th at a press conference, to say to a journalist: “I don't know if you have other ideas but I'm interested.”

The crocodile coach had just mentioned the solutions that could finally allow the Crocodiles to score goals, “continue to work, to believe in ourselves, to tell ourselves that things will eventually turn around, (hope) that a youngster explodes up front or elsewhere…”

What is certain, and Hermach has already warned: “I will not have a big name in the transfer window.” Nîmes, the worst attack in the championship, having failed six times in thirteen games, will have to get by with the elements it has at hand.

The results of the 14th day and the ranking of the National

Dominating is not winning

Week after week, the Crocos give rise to the same observations, the same debates, the same questions, the same misunderstandings, the same doubts. They hold up – fortunately! – in defense (4th best record tied with Nancy) where they have six clean sheets, but they are unable to shake the opposing nets.

However, the Nîmes coach repeated again after the 0-0 draw against Le Mans, his team did what was necessary to achieve this. “You dominate the game, because the (diamond system) allowed us to clearly and clearly take the upper hand in midfield, you set up in the opponent's camp, you make glaring shifts, you have the ball and you bring it into the last thirty meters. There are starts of actions where I say to myself: “Ah yeah, if we score there, it's going to be beautiful”. You get to the last center, to the last gesture and then…”

The construction OK, the finish KO

And then, nothing! Le Mans coach Patrick Videira assured us. Despite the crocodile domination, which prevailed especially in the first half, he was “not worried. The real opportunity that Nîmes had, it was us who gave it to them”.

“There are often situations that we don't transform into opportunities, concedes Adil Hermach. In terms of construction, there is not much to say, it was diverse. In terms of imbalance and finishing, we were not efficient.”

A lack of “sensitivity foot”

To score, you would need to “feel the shots, have flair, anticipation, football sensitivity and we clearly lack that”, sent the Gard technician, who may well change the system and the men who lead it (twelve different offensive compositions counted!), but nothing works.

Rather polished, Nîmes' game is often too clean, too recited, too predictable. “We lack spontaneity, we think maybe a little too much”, notes captain Formose Mendy, who also acknowledges: “We should be much meaner and more determined.”

A relegation zone pace

Unable to win, Nîmes, which is advancing at a rate of one point per match, therefore at a rate of a potential relegation zone, finds itself today, unsurprisingly, with just one length ahead of the zone red.

“We're in a tough situation, we're being careful but I can't tell you that I'm very worried”, assures Adil Hermach, who wants to be positive: “When we play the matches we play, we're closer to switching to the good side than to the bad side.” Maybe, but we always come back to the same point: who can make the difference ? Desperately looking for a goal scorer(s).
