Nintendo Switch 2: a launch line-up reinforced by cult games ?

A few months ago, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the successor to the Switch would be unveiled before March 2025. Since this announcement, there has been radio silence, or almost, and very little information has leaked out. However, Paul Gale, a video game writer and analyst, has made a new statement on his X.com account, stating that the Switch 2 will be accompanied, upon launch, by a fairly substantial number of games from third-party publishers.

A strategy that would contrast sharply with that which we know from the Japanese manufacturer, which has often favored a slower and more selective approach in terms of third-party games on its consoles.

Third-party publishers in force from launch

The new iteration of Nintendo's flagship console seems to be generating unprecedented excitement among major players in the video game industry. Unlike the launch of its predecessor in 2017, which saw many renowned publishers shun the platform, the Switch 2 apparently enjoys a much greater appeal. Paul Gale suggests that third-party developers, scalded by their initial misunderstanding, would not make the same mistake twice.

Thus, the video game landscape would be particularly rich from the first hours of life of this new version. We can reasonably expect not only ports, but also concomitant releases and exclusives from its launch. While the precise identity of the studios involved and the titles in the works remains a mystery, this turnaround contrasts sharply with the mixed reception given to the first Switch.

At the time, giants such as Ubisoft, EA, FromSoftware and Rockstar Games had largely abandoned the console, mainly citing technical limitations. The tide may have turned!

A more powerful console, new opportunities

« A few major third-party developers who, at E3 2017, didn't expect the Nintendo Switch to be a huge success and didn't have a AAA title to be presented at the show, are currently working on major launch games for Nintendo's next console “. This is what Paul Gale tells us in his tweet above.

The arrival of a Switch 2 with tenfold capacity opens up a considerably broader gaming horizon, potentially embracing AAA productions previously absent from the Nintendo ecosystem.

If the first Switch was able to win over its audience without relying on big successful franchises (Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, etc.), the second Switch could well take it a step further by immediately integrating these video game behemoths.

However, let us temper our enthusiasm for Paul Gale's predictions, whose reliability in terms of disclosures has sometimes proven to be fluctuating. Despite these reservations, speculation surrounding the technical prowess of this new version fuels hope that it could establish itself as a preferred medium for third-party developers.

  • New rumors are circulating about the Switch 2, launched by Paul Gale.
  • According to him, the console will welcome games from third-party publishers from its launch, who are more convinced of the potential of the new Switch.
  • Rumors that still need to be taken with a grain of salt tweezers.
