“I listen to him even more”

However, as Vanessa Paradis and Marie-Claire revealed, their relationship takes on a whole other dimension when they work together. “In work, I am no longer his wife, he is no longer my husband, he is my director and I listen to him even more than in life. His word, in these cases, is almost divine“, confided the 51-year-old actress.

Far from being a hindrance, this intense collaboration has proven to be beneficial for their couple. Vanessa Paradis says: “When Samuel and I left, on tour for four months for his play Maman, the idea of being together all the time, during the day, in the evening, on stage, on the road, scared us, seemed risky. Because of our jobs, we are both often on the road, used to being separated. But in the end, this long tour turned out to be extremely fun for us. It was a very nice way, in the end, to spend time together, we who love being together so much.”

A shared artistic history

The couple began their artistic collaboration with the film Chien, which marked their meeting. They then worked together on the feature film Cette musique ne joue pour personne in 2021, where Vanessa Paradis shares the bill with Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and François Damiens.

The play Maman, in which Vanessa Paradis plays under the direction of her husband, was a great success in Paris before going on tour in the provinces and then returning to the capital. Samuel Benchetrit also participated in his wife's album Les Sources in 2018, composing six tracks.

Despite initial fears, their personal relationship seems to fully flourish in the work, with the two artists managing to sort things out. A beautiful proof that love and creation can go well together.
