NVIDIA graphics cards: I upgraded from a 3070 Ti to a 4070 SUPER, and here are my conclusions

The Computex of 2024 as well as the world stock market demonstrated this year the great superiority of NVIDIA, with regard to the field of artificial intelligence. Building on its economic success in this environment, the Santa Clara company does not forget the general public, by offering ever more powerful graphics cards. Current titles and the democratization of 4K screens require solid and sophisticated components.

For the few remaining “PC master race” players, have machines that allow them to play the most demanding titles in the best possible conditions is essential. This is how the question of changing graphics cards from one generation to another regularly arises.

In order to answer it, I am therefore went from a 3070 Ti Founders Edition (or FE, a model from NVIDIA, without retouching from a third party manufacturer) to a 4070 SUPER FE. The main use of this type of machine is video games, so I chose to carry out representative tests on a competitive FPS, a game requiring large resources, then the latest gem from Sony studios released recently on PC.

The Screens with a definition of 1920 x 1080 pixels are still commonplace despite advances in the field in recent years. What interests us here is to see what number of images per second – more commonly called FPS – it is possible to obtain by switching from an older generation graphics card to a current generation model.

A high FPS number is essential for fluidity, responsiveness and precision for a better gaming experience. For this comparison, we used strictly the same gaming settings from one graphics card to another (changing the resolution of course), being those recommended by the NVIDIA App application. These tests were carried out with the latest drivers released to date (555.99).

Here are the average comparisons FPS at 1080p, between the 3070 Ti and the 4070 SUPER:

We see with Counter Strike 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima a respective increase in performance of 15, 25 and 39%! The leap forward made by the FPS average in Ghost of Tsushima is clearly not negligible on Full HD.

L The increase in performance in 4K with between Counter Strike 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima is at 4, 25, and 33%. Rather similar results with Full HD benchmarks. However, these results highlight the fact that it is possible to achieve the Holy Grail of over 60 FPS in 4K using the 4070 SUPER.

We are updating our graphics card for the current generation ?

The 4070 SUPER is a real progression compared to the 3070 Ti. This starts with its completely black appearance, which looks great and its reduced size, which offers a particularly successful aesthetic to the case in which it fits. We then appreciate its reduced consumptionin view of current electricity prices, also leading to a reduction in heating, but also in noise. Finally, the performance gain in particular in Ghost of Tsushima is substantial, thus allowing to pass the 60 FPS mark in 4K< /strong> even on demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077.
