At the call of the CGT Éduc-Action, the FSU and Sud éducation, the Accompanying teachers for students with disabilities (AESH) are on strike this Thursday, January 16, 2025. They are asking in particular for "a significant increase" in their salary.

Around twenty Companion Teachers for Students with Disabilities (AESH) gathered in front of the premises of the Departmental Directorate of National Education Services (DSDEN) in Mende on Thursday, January 16. They were responding to the national call launched by the CGT Éduc-Action, the FSU and Sud éducation.

“The majority of AESH are women in very precarious situations. On average, we survive on €900 per month”, denounces Yaël Evrard, FSU union representative. The three unions behind this day of strike demand, among other things, “a significant increase in salaries.”

“We are missing the status”

“We are also demanding the creation of a body of civil servants Category B, with a full-time position of twenty-four hours, in the same way as school teachers, continues the AESH of the Inclusive Localized Support Center (Pial) of Florac-Trois-Rivières.We also have work to do upstream, which must be taken into account.”

Her colleague Aurélie De Conchy, AESH in secondary education, in Marvejols, agrees: “The recognition of parents and our fellow teachers. We lack the status.”

“One AESH for eight or ten students”

The reimbursement of mileage expenses, while AESHs are regularly required to travel from one establishment to another. “Since the beginning of the year, they have not been paid, protests Yaël Evrard. We often have to choose between putting in gas or filling the fridge.”

This demonstration also had a strong symbolic value, since the inclusive school will celebrate its twentieth anniversary on February 11. “We have a lack of human resources, continues the union representative. Not all needs are covered. In Lozère, we have situations with one AESH for eight or ten students.”
