One of the benefits of using Apple products is that they benefit from perfect interoperability. For example, if you use an iPhone and a Mac, you can easily transfer a task you were doing on your smartphone to your computer, using the Handoff feature.

Google is rolling out a similar solution

Fortunately, Google is already working on a similar solution. And according to a recent article from Android Police, this solution, called cross-device services, is gradually rolling out to more devices. In fact, while this new feature was already available on Pixel models and Samsung devices, it recently arrived on Nothing devices, according to the journalist from Android Police.

This one received a notification from Google Play Services announcing the availability of the feature, as well as an infographic that presents it. To use cross-device services, you must have two devices connected to the same Google account. And once the configuration is done, it allows you to automatically connect to the Wi-Fi access point of one device, from the other device. Otherwise, if you make a call, you will also have the possibility of switching from one device to another, without having to cut. “Apps can offer you ways to share content between your own devices”, Google also indicates on a help page. And it plans to enrich this functionality, later.

How to enable Android cross-device services ?

To enable Android cross-device services, go to the smartphone settings, then Google, then Devices and sharing, then Cross-device services. All you have to do is check that cross-device services are enabled, without forgetting to check the list of devices connected to your Google account.

Furthermore, since cross-device services are deployed via Google Play Services, this deployment does not depend on Android versions and requires little intervention from smartphone manufacturers.

  • Google is developing a solution similar to Apple's Handoff feature, to enable better interoperability between products in its ecosystem
  • Called cross-device services, this new feature makes it easier to share connections between devices, and also allows you to transfer calls from one device to another
  • According to Android Police, Google is rolling out this new feature to more than Android smartphones
  • You can check if this feature is available on your Android smartphone by going to the settings
