Gasquet faced Mannarino in the first round of the Open Occitanie. Giacomo Italiano – Midi Libre

The Sérignanais won with authority over his compatriot Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-2, during the first round of the Open Occitanie, Tuesday January 28. In the second round, he will face the No. 2 seed, the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (46th in the world).

His last match at the Open Occitanie will not be for a while! Facing his compatriot and friend Adrian Mannarino (108th in the world), Richard Gasquet (132nd) won seriously in just 1 hour 15 minutes.

After two failures in the first round in Montpellier – against Arthur Fils then Pablo Llamas-Ruiz – the Hérault player reaches the second round where he will face a player of a completely different caliber, namely the tournament's No. 5 seed, the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (46th), on Thursday.

With this victory, Gasquet also becomes the third man in the Open era to win at least one ATP victory over 24 seasons.

Mannarino struggles

Like Arthur Cazaux on Monday evening, Gasquet was able to start the match against Mannarino very well by breaking early to lead 3-1, then obtaining two break points at 4-1, without managing to do so.

After pocketing the first set with a splendid winning forehand (6-3), the Hérault player continued his momentum by taking the game from the Parisian after 11 minutes of battle.

Facing a Mannarino clearly far from his best level who spent his time simply playing in the court, the Sérignan player had a great time, whether on serve or with some very nice winning points throughout the game. To then fold the affair very easily (6-2) without any break point to defend in the game.
