Open water: two swimmers from NO Frontignan climb onto a world podium

Spread the love

Yohan Ramplou a réussi à décrocher le titre mondial en “40-49 ans” sur le 10 km et 2 km sprint.

Yohan Ramplou et Clément Matéo ont pris l’or et le bronze à l’Oceanman de Dubaï.

Neptune Olympique has recently made Frontignan’s colours shine abroad. Two swimmers from the club were in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), from 13 to 15 December, for the open water swimming world championships.

Two great performances

An “Oceanman” (equivalent to the Ironman in triathlon) for which five Frontignanais were initially qualified. Sandrine Bourdon, Céline Santarelli and Bertrand Venturi, however, had to miss the trip due to scheduling difficulties. On the other hand, Yohan Ramplou and Clément Matéo made the trip. And not for nothing.

Competing in the “40-49 years” category in the 10 km and 2 km sprint, Yohan Ramplou thus won the world title, also tenth in the general ranking of all categories. As for Clément Matéo, still in “40-49 years” but in the 5 km and 2 km sprint, it was with the bronze (thirteenth in the general ranking) that he returned to Frontignan.

Objective… Back

Two magnificent performances in an event that brought together swimmers from all over the world, with qualifications contested from January to December. For their part, the NOF swimmers had obtained theirs last May, in Spain.

Their next major open water race will be in May 2025, in the same place and for the same objective. Still at the NOF, but on the racing side, the swimmers' goal will be to qualify for the French championships scheduled for June.

Timothé Gantet and Bertrand Venturi

At the same time, from December 11 to 15, Timothé Gantet was in Dunkirk, accompanied by Bertrand Venturi, for the French championships in the 50 meters. Qualified in the 50 m, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke in the junior category, the young swimmer improved all his best times and got closer to the best French swimmers.
