Ottawa grants $11 million to clean energy projects, mainly in Alberta

Eleven clean energy projects, most of which are located in Alberta, have been selected to receive a total of $11 million in federal funding.

Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson made the announcement Wednesday in Calgary, where he is participating in a conference with provincial and territorial ministers.

Of this amount, $2.5 million will be dedicated to small modular nuclear reactor research at the University of Alberta and the University of Regina.

The remaining $8.5 million will be split among seven Alberta companies working on clean hydrogen development.

A new report from the Institute Clean energy think tank Pembina and Simon Fraser University say Canada is on track to significantly reduce emissions this decade thanks to government policies that accelerate the transition to clean energy .

The report gives high marks to the federal government as well as the governments of British Columbia and Quebec for their support of the energy transition, but says the governments of Alberta and Saskatchewan are lagging behind.
