The federal government will invest $500 million to create a new fund to help community health organizations that support youth mental health.

Federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland made the announcement Tuesday morning in Ottawa alongside other ministers.

During the 2021 election campaign, the Liberals promised to establish a similar fund for post-secondary institutions to help support student mental health.

This fund is the most recent in a series of announcements made in recent days by the federal government in anticipation of the tabling of the 2024 budget.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already mentioned that the budget will focus on young people, in particular to help them become owners or rent affordable housing.

Ms. Freeland is due to present the federal budget next Tuesday.
