The Finnish brand Oura Health has just presented the 4th edition of its connected ring dedicated to monitoring the health. With this Oura Ring 4, the European company wants to provide a response to the Galaxy Ring from the giant Samsung, presented in the middle of summer.

In this article we will try to compare these two products to find out which of these two rings is more worthy of being on your finger.

Design: advantage Samsung?

The first point to look at when it comes to connected rings is obviously the aesthetics of the devices. For Samsung, like its European competitor, the The appearance of the ring is a major selling point. While there is no accounting for taste, it is nevertheless possible to compare these two products on rational factors, such as size or weight.

In both areas, Samsung is ahead of Oura. With its Ring 4, the Finnish startup offers a ring that is 7.9 mm wide and 2.88 mm thick. On the scale, the Oura Ring 4 does not exceed 5.2 grams (in its largest size) and 3.3 grams (in its smallest format).

Oura used titanium to build its ring, saving a few very precious grams in this comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Ring. But all of Oura's efforts were not enough. Samsung's Galaxy Ring weighs only 2.3 grams. It measures 7 mm x 2.6 mm. Again, it is slightly better than its competitor of the day.

Performance: perfect equality

Having a connected ring can be useful, but it's always better if it can be used for something. In both cases, Samsung and Oura have targeted the same needs: monitoring users' health. With its new ring, the Finnish company claims to have improved the accuracy of its heart rate sensor by more than 30% at night.

It will be interesting to follow the first tests of the new Oura Ring 4 to see if these developments are of any real interest. On paper, at least, both watches are equipped with the same sensors. In addition to heart rate, they can measure body temperature, blood oxygen levels, or record activity-related movements using an accelerometer.

Battery life and charging: Oura takes the lead

In the field of autonomy, it is the European firm Oura which takes the upper hand over its opponent of the day. The Oura Ring 4 can thus run for 8 days (according to the brand) on a single charge. Samsung does not manage to reach this mark and does slightly worse, with 7 days.

Recharging is equivalent on both connected rings. As with watches, USB-C has not yet established itself as a universal standard (particularly due to product waterproofing issues). Both devices take about an hour to fully charge.

Price and availability: two packages for two different rings

The most important criterion before buying a technological device is obviously its price. Crucial, the price positioning of a new product like a connected ring must be perfectly mastered. Samsung with its Galaxy Ring has decided to target the top of the basket. Its ring is available from €449.

Oura is positioned lower (from €399), but there are conditions. Indeed, Oura's financial model is not only based on the sale of connected rings. The brand offers many services for a subscription. It costs €69.99 per year to access all the options included in the ring.

Which smart ring to buy ?

While the question may seem complicated, it is actually much simpler than one might think. Indeed, smart rings are just accessories that complete an ecosystem. The smartphone is still the centerpiece of this digital world and it is mainly the one that will decide on your purchase.

So if you have a Samsung phone, we advise you to turn to the Galaxy Ring. It will integrate perfectly into the ecosystem built in recent years by the South Korean brand. If on the contrary, you do not have a Samsung phone, then the Oura Ring 4 is made for you.

It is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones and this universal side is undoubtedly its greatest strength. Available in 5 colors and in more than 10 sizes, you will definitely find the Oura Ring 4 made for your finger.
